Free In-Home Norman® Shutter Consultation in Scottsdale & Phoenix Metro
The consultation is where everything starts—and it's what separates Shutters Direct AZ from the showroom experience. Instead of asking you to drive to a store, sit under fluorescent lights, and make decisions from samples that don't reflect your home's actual light and proportions, we come to you. The owners personally visit your home, review your windows, walk you through Norman® shutter options, and help you design a solution that looks and works exactly right for your space.

The in-home consultation is a practical, no-pressure conversation about your windows and your goals. Here's what to expect:
Window Review
We walk through your home and look at every window you're considering. We assess the opening size, sill depth, mounting options, and any structural considerations that affect how the shutter will be configured and installed. For unusual windows—large, arched, or sliding door openings—we note what custom configurations will be needed.
Design Discussion
We bring physical Norman® samples to your home. That means you're comparing louver sizes, frame styles, and finish colors in your actual lighting conditions—not showroom lighting. Most homeowners are surprised by how much easier the decision is when you can hold the sample up against your actual wall, trim, and window frame. We discuss the differences between 2½", 3½", and 4½" louvers, frame and panel options, the hidden tilt system versus the standard tilt rod, and what configuration works best for each opening.
Shutter Configuration Planning
Not every window needs the same configuration. We plan each shutter based on the specific opening: standard panels for typical windows, divided-light configurations for tall windows, bypass or bifold systems for sliding doors, and specialty configurations for arched or unusual shapes. Every configuration is mapped to your specific windows before we leave.
Pricing
We provide clear, itemized pricing during the consultation—not a ballpark estimate followed by a follow-up pitch. Because we operate without showroom overhead and commissioned salespeople, our pricing reflects the actual cost of the product and installation. We explain what you're paying for and answer any questions before you make any decision.
Why the In-Home Approach Produces Better Results
Shutter showrooms ask you to imagine what a sample will look like in your home. We remove that guesswork entirely. We see your windows, your light, and your existing décor. We can tell you immediately whether a 3½" louver will look proportional in your specific window or whether a larger louver would read better. That kind of contextual advice is impossible to deliver from a showroom floor.
It also eliminates surprises. When measurements are taken in your home by the person who will be accountable for the result, you don't get "it was close enough" fits or configurations that technically work but look wrong. We measure each window correctly the first time.
The Design Details We Help You Navigate
Louver Size
Norman® Woodlore comes in 2½", 3½", and 4½" louver sizes. Smaller louvers give a more traditional, classic plantation look. Larger louvers open to a wider unobstructed view and feel more contemporary. The right size depends on your window height and width, the room's style, and your personal preference. We help you see the difference in your actual space.
Frame Style
Shutters mount with different frame profiles depending on the window opening and your preference. We go over the options—L-frame, Z-frame, and direct mount—and explain which works best for your sill depth and the look you want to achieve.
Panel Configuration
Single panel, double panel, divided-light configurations for tall windows—we plan the right panel layout for each opening. For very tall windows, a divider rail at the mid-point allows you to control the top and bottom louvers independently, which is especially useful for privacy without sacrificing natural light.
Tilt System
Standard Norman® shutters include a center tilt rod to control the louvers. The hidden tilt option moves the mechanism inside the stile for a clean, rod-free appearance. We show you both options and explain the difference so you can choose the look that fits your style.
Color and Finish
We bring physical finish samples to compare against your trim, walls, and cabinetry in your real lighting conditions. Norman® Woodlore is available in a range of whites, off-whites, neutral tones, and wood-stained finishes. Most homeowners decide quickly once they see the options side by side in their actual space.
After the Consultation
Once you decide to move forward, we finalize the specifications, submit the custom order to Norman®, and schedule installation once your shutters arrive. Lead times vary but we keep you informed throughout. Installation is handled by our experienced installer—25+ years in Arizona—and completed efficiently, typically in one to two days for a whole home. We finish with a final walkthrough to confirm everything looks and operates exactly as planned.
