Meet Kurt: The Shutters Direct Difference Why there is no showroom and no commissioned sales rep, and why Kurt and Josh sell Norman® shutters exclusively. Read the transcript
Hi, I'm Kurt Walker, the owner here at Shutters Direct here in Arizona. Why choose us? It's simple. The best shutters at unbeatable prices. Because we operate with zero overhead, no expensive showrooms, no commission salespeople, we cut out all the middlemen entirely. This allows you to get the highest quality shutters on the market for a fraction of the cost. You will also work directly with myself and my partner Josh, who will also be installing your project. We've been in the shutter business for about 25 years here in the Phoenix area. There's a lot of shutters to be installed in those years and we see what works and what doesn't work. That's why we decided to only sell Norman exclusively. Not just because they've been around for 50 years, but the huge amount of patents they have on their products. These patents are what separates them from the competition. These are just a few reasons why we're now exclusive with just Norman shutters out here in the desert. There wasn't just a solid composite construction with incredible fit and finish, the non-warping or discoloring that's so common out here in the desert, the InvisibleTilt that gives you the clean modern lines, or the lifetime warranty with Woodlore shutters. That's why we're now exclusive with Norman shutters. I look forward to meeting you personally and let's customize your home together.
104° Outside, Cool to the Touch Filmed in July on a south-facing window. What solid Norman® shutters do with Arizona heat. Read the transcript
So, one thing about this is these shutters, they were built for extreme heat here in Arizona. So when you're closing this up, and now we're in the middle of July, it's 104 outside and literally these shutters are cool. So they're cool to the touch. So if I were to close these up, and this is south-facing, I know it's a little bit overcast today, but you can kind of see here, as soon as you close that off, that'll trap all that heat inside of here. And again, you will not feel it heat up. By having it solid, not having the vinyl or composite that's hollow, these will not heat up like you will on those other ones. And then again, they won't split, they won't fade, they won't discolor, and if they do, you have a lifetime warranty.
Why Norman® Shutters A solid wood composite shutter rated to 140°F without sagging, cracking or fading. Read the transcript
Norman shutters. They are in a league of their own and with our special pricing there's no reason to compromise or settle. I want to touch on a few things that separates Norman shutters from the competition. First, Norman has created a solid wood composite shutter that withstands temperatures up to 140 degrees without sagging, cracking, or fading. It's a big deal especially out here in the desert. You want to reduce your energy bills? It starts with your windows. Because our shutters are a solid core design, they provide a heavy-duty insulation that standard blinds, hollow vinyl shutters just can't match. The other benefit is being completely solid shutter this also makes a huge difference on your noise reduction.
InvisibleTilt™ Explained How Norman®'s patented gear system replaces the tilt rod, and why it means one less thing to break. Read the transcript
What makes Norman? What separates Norman from the competition? The InvisibleTilt patent in my mind is the ultimate game changer. This is a gear driven system that eliminates traditional tilt rods for a streamlined look. This also allows a much wider, clearer view than the competition. What I mean by that is this. So on their patent what Norman has done is they've created a gear system inside of here. So right inside here there's an actual gear. So if you want to change it you can just change it with your hands. Traditional shutters in the past they had a bar that went down the middle that constantly kind of broke off but you can pull it up and down up and down so all of them move together. What other companies are doing now since there's a patent on this they've created a bar on the side on the other side so when you go it actually tilts. But the problem with that is it's on the other side so when you're looking into the window it's just kind of an eyesore. It's not as clean but it's also one more thing to actually break. So again this is where and I feel the complete game changer because everybody wants a little bit cleaner of a look. This is going to allow you to get that look and it allows you to not have any additional stuff in that gear. Again the InvisibleTilt is the ultimate game changer in my mind.
InvisibleTilt™ Up Close The gears in action: no center rod, cleaner lines, a wider view. Read the transcript
What separates Norman from the competition, the InvisibleTilt patent in my mind is the ultimate game changer. This is a gear driven system that eliminates traditional tilt rods for a more streamlined look. This allows you a little bit wider more clearer views and less clutter than the competition. What I mean by that is this, now what they've done is they created a patent and they've put gears inside of here. What these gears allow you to do is open and close these shutters. Traditionally we used to have a rod and that rod went down the middle, had a little bit more farmhouse look, a little more country look to it. So now plantation shutters can actually go into more modern, cleaner houses with that streamlined look because they don't have all the additional clutter in here.
Louver Sizes: 2½, 3½ and 4½ Inch The three louver widths side by side, and which one is most popular. Read the transcript
Now, this is a 3.5 inch blind. We can even have less of these by going with a 4.5. If you like it even a little bit more, you know, we can only go 2.5, 3.5, and 4.5. This is the 3.5 I'm showing you here.
50/50 or 70/30 Split Panels How a split shutter gives you privacy by the pool and light up top. Read the transcript
Now, this is a split and the reason why we split this 50/50, not just because it was the backyard and we didn't need the privacy, but there was an actual window here so we can actually, you won't see the window sill. So you can close things off while people are swimming in the pool and still have your privacy inside your actual room. Now, if this was the front of the house, we take this probably a little bit higher up if it was a window this size out in the front and we would actually probably have it a 70/30 split. These would be closed down here while this is letting light in above here.
What Other Brands Do Instead The side-bar workarounds other brands use, and why Kurt doesn't sell them. Read the transcript
So now people have created workarounds and what I mean by people are the at the competition So now they have bars that are behind here and they set them off to the side the left or the right So you can't see them But you can see them when you're on the other side of the window and again as we all know of having shutters in the past those are just more things to actually break and in my mind the true game changer with Norman is when they went with this patent and this is what sets them apart from everything else
The Light-Seal Trim A small trim detail that lets less light and heat through the seams. Read the transcript
On that, I'm also going to open this up here, they've also created a little trim back here. So when you close these off, these seams here, it lets a lot less light in, also heat in and out.
